Sarai (Nov. 2020 Fan Survey)
Since starting this passion project in October 2016, our collective vision has evolved beyond our wildest dreams. Margot and I first founded The Clexa Project after being inspired by the queer-led fan activism catalyzed by Lexa’s death on the CW’s show The 100. For those unfamiliar, "Clexa" (Cleh-xuh) is the pairing name that describes the romantic TV relationship between the characters "Clarke" and "Lexa." With the inaugural announcement of queer media convention ClexaCon, we decided to align ourselves with “Clexa” in our public name as well.
Over the course of the past six years, the critical focus of our documentary has blossomed into a more in-depth critique of the media industry writ large. Our research has led us to new and important perspectives, including those speaking truth to call-outs of brownface and cultural appropriation on The 100. We believe that standing in solidarity means looking at the bigger picture, taking accountability, learning from your mistakes, and applying those lessons in future decisions. As we call on leaders in mainstream media to do better, we must be willing to direct that reflective energy inward as well.
A few years into production, we finally settled on a name for our film: Love Me Bait Me. Just like everything else, our needs and priorities have evolved over time. To best tell this story, we no longer feel the need to identify ourselves with any one particular character or couple pairing. Rather, we remain committed to the narrative that continues to reveal itself—one that explicitly honors the humanity of everyone in our collective community. As we get closer to distribution and film festival season, we've made the decision to let go of “The Clexa Project” brand in future communications in favor of our film’s official title. Our association and history with The Clexa Project will still be acknowledged in the film's billing, credits, and other fine print.

In solidarity,
